steam ship attacked by giant squid during storm © MARTIN DAVEY 2008 This image of a giant squid attacking a ship was painted to A4 size in photoshop.The drawing is hand done in photoshop on one floating layer and the painting then created behind. As the painting becomes more defined the drawing layer is removed as it it becomes easier to paint the details directly rather than draw them first. I set the painting at night and in a storm as I believed it would be exciting, seeing the crashing waves and the rain bouncing off the elements in the image. The tilting of the boat, pulled by the monster helps to add more drama to the composition.
